How to find an in-home caregiver in Cabazon

Cabazon is an unincorporated community in Riverside County, which the Census Bureau treats as a census-designated place of about 1,887 people (ACS 2020–2024, margin of error ±430). With so few residents, the caregiver who answers your post may well live elsewhere in the Banning area, so be exact about the street location, parking and whether the job includes driving. The survey estimates that about a quarter of Cabazon households include someone 65 or older, and that most older residents report a disability; the sample is small, so read those as rough signals.

Spanish is the other language you are likely to need. ACS puts the share of residents five and older who speak it at home at 37.0%, and about 15.9% say they speak English less than very well. Say in the post which language your relative prefers. The caregivers shown are sorted by distance from your ZIP, and new profiles appear as people sign up.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Cabazon

The state's May 2025 licensing file shows no licensed home care organization in ZIP 92230, so in practice you are hiring an independent caregiver or an IHSS provider. Ask each applicant which credentials they hold and check them: a CNA certificate on the CDPH lookup, a Home Care Aide Registry number if they give one (optional for independents), and, for IHSS, confirmation that they have finished Riverside County's provider enrollment, which ends with an in-person orientation. Phone at least two people the applicant has cared for, or their families, and ask what happened the last time something went wrong on a shift. Have your relative meet the applicant, and pay for a first shift while a family member is in the house. CaregiverConnect does not carry out background, identity or reference checks; families who want a background report can buy one from a screening company after the caregiver signs a consent form.

Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Cabazon: hourly rates and schedules

Weekday mornings around lunch. A caregiver can bring your relative to the Venable Center's senior lunch, served on weekdays between 11:30 and 12:30, and stay for the activities. Bus-timed shifts. If the caregiver uses Route 1, set start and end times that match the bus; weekend service starts at 8 a.m. and stops for lunch from 12:30 to 1:30. Half-day blocks. Someone traveling in from Banning or Beaumont may prefer four hours or more to a short visit. Extra help after a hospital stay. Plan more hours, possibly overnight, during the first weeks after discharge from San Gorgonio Memorial or another hospital.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Cabazon is outside any city, and the UC Berkeley Labor Center inventory shows no Riverside County wage ordinance, so a caregiver you employ must be paid at least California's $16.90 an hour. Under state domestic worker rules, a personal attendant is owed 1.5 times the regular rate for hours past nine in a day or 45 in a week. As benchmarks, Riverside County IHSS providers earn $19.90 and CareScout's California median for agency care is $40. Money is tight for many households here: ACS estimates 40.5% received SNAP in the past year, and the median household income is estimated at $48,704, give or take about $24,900. IHSS requires a Medi-Cal eligibility determination; if your relative qualifies, call (888) 960-4477 to apply before committing to many private hours.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
