How to find an in-home caregiver in Moreno Valley

Many Moreno Valley families start looking for a caregiver in a hurry, on the day a discharge planner says a parent can go home. If that is you, post the start date, the hours you need in the first two weeks, and what help is needed (walking, bathing, medication reminders, rides to follow-up visits); caregivers whose radius includes 92551, 92553, 92555 or 92557 can apply straight away. Caregiver profiles near you appear above as people join, and those from Riverside and Perris often cover Moreno Valley as well.

In Moreno Valley 27.8% of households include someone 65 or older even though only 9.8% of residents are in that age group (ACS 2020–2024). Adult children here commute far (35.5 minutes each way on average, and 18.6% of workers take an hour or more), so the typical posting covers weekdays from early morning. Spanish is the home language for 44.5% of residents five and older; say in the posting which language your parent is most comfortable in.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Moreno Valley

Ask each applicant what they hold and check it: a Home Care Aide Registry number (search it on the CDSS site), IHSS enrollment, or a CDPH nursing assistant certificate, which graduates of Riverside City College’s nearby program receive after passing the state exam. Phone two people the caregiver has worked for. Interview at home with your parent present. Pay for one or two trial shifts before committing. If you want a background check, order one yourself with the caregiver’s written consent; CaregiverConnect does not check or vet caregivers, and its Verified badge only shows that a caregiver uploaded proof of a check.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • Have you helped someone recover at home after a stay at RUHS Medical Center or Kaiser Moreno Valley?
  • Can you be here before 7 am on weekdays, and where are you driving from?
  • Are you comfortable with transfers from bed to wheelchair, and have you been trained to do them safely?
  • Would you take my father to follow-up visits on Cactus Avenue or Iris Avenue, and how should we handle mileage?
  • Could you talk with my father in Spanish through the day?
  • How do you keep track of medications and report changes to the family?
  • What happens if you are sick on a day you are scheduled?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Moreno Valley: hourly rates and schedules

After a discharge. Longer daily hours for two to four weeks, often including the first nights home, then tapering to a few visits a week.

Commuter households. Weekday blocks that start before the family leaves for work, sometimes with a midday check-in instead of a full shift.

Spouse respite. A fixed afternoon or Saturday each week for the husband or wife who does most of the caring.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Moreno Valley follows the California minimum wage of $16.90; the city has no local ordinance. If your parent is on Medi-Cal, apply for IHSS first: the county pays the provider $19.90 an hour for authorized hours, and you pay privately only for the rest. Private caregivers usually price between that wage and the $40 statewide agency median, adding for nights and weekends. When you employ the caregiver yourself, budget for employer payroll taxes beyond the federal threshold, and remember that California’s personal-attendant rule makes any time past 9 hours in one day, or 45 in one week, overtime.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
