How to find an in-home caregiver in Mecca

Riverside County governs Mecca directly, since it is an unincorporated census-designated place, and ACS 2020–2024 counts 7,184 people living there. About 900 are 65 or older, and three in ten households (30.3%) have a member that age. Most of those older residents live with children and grandchildren, so a hired caregiver usually fills one gap in the household's week: the hours after the adults leave for work, a shower and breakfast, a clinic visit, or a free Saturday for the daughter or son doing most of the care.

Be specific about language. In Mecca, Spanish is the home language for 87.2% of residents past age four, and many elders relax sooner with someone who speaks it. Say in your post whether the job needs a driver; 15.3% of Mecca households have no vehicle, and the nearest hospital is in Indio. The caregivers listed above update as new profiles are published, nearest first.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Mecca

Verify what the public records allow. CDPH lists certified nursing assistants; a caregiver on the Home Care Aide Registry has cleared a state background check; Riverside County IHSS providers have done Live Scan fingerprinting and orientation. The state licensing files from May 2025 list no home care agency with a Mecca address, so the people who answer your post will mostly be independent caregivers from Mecca, Thermal, Coachella or Indio. Phone two families each applicant has worked for. Before committing, pay for one trial shift with a relative at home. CaregiverConnect does not verify identity, criminal records or work history. A background check is up to you, and the caregiver must agree to it in writing.

  • Can you start before 6 a.m. on days we leave early for work?
  • Will you take my mother to Innercare on 66th Avenue, and do you drive or use SunLine?

  • If you live in Indio or Coachella, how will you get here when your car is in the shop?

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Mecca has no wage ordinance of its own; as an unincorporated place it falls under county rules, and the UC Berkeley inventory shows no local minimum for any part of Riverside County, so you may not pay a caregiver you employ less than California's $16.90 an hour. A personal attendant is owed overtime at time and a half beyond nine hours a day or 45 a week. Employed aides in the two-county metro have a $16.50 median; Riverside County IHSS pays $19.90. The household median income in Mecca is $48,312 (ACS), so the $40 CareScout agency median is beyond many budgets. If your parent is eligible for IHSS, the county pays the caregiver your family chooses, and that can be a relative.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

The Desert Recreation District runs a senior program at the Mecca Community Center on Coahuilla Street, Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., for anyone 50 or older. Call the district on (760) 347-3484 to ask what is on the current schedule.

Not by address. The state licensing files from May 2025 list no residential care home for the elderly in 92254, and CDPH lists only the two Innercare clinics. Families who need residential care look elsewhere in the valley.

Yes. Under Riverside County IHSS, once he has a Medi-Cal eligibility determination (a CDSS condition) and the county approves hours, a son, daughter or other relative can enroll as his provider at $19.90 an hour. Start by calling the IHSS HOME line, (888) 960-4477.

Will caregivers from Indio or Coachella come to Mecca?

Some will, especially for regular weekly hours. Name the nearest cross streets, offer gas money if you can, and caregivers with 92254 in their radius will see the post.
