How to find an in-home caregiver in Coachella

In Coachella the older person who needs help usually lives with family. ACS 2020–2024 counts 4,177 residents aged 65 or older among the city's 45,300 people (DOF, January 2026), and 23.0% of households include someone that age, but only 2.7% of households are an older person on their own. So a family request here is likely to be for daytime cover in a shared home: someone to keep Grandma company, cook, help her bathe and get her to appointments while the adults work. Spell out who else is in the house and who the caregiver answers to.

Write the post in the language your relative uses. Spanish is the home language for 83.3% of Coachella residents aged five and over, and 36.4% of that group speak English less than "very well." A caregiver who talks with your parent in Spanish and with the clinic in English can save a lot of confusion. If the job includes driving, name the places: Innercare on Cesar Chavez Street, the clinics on Sixth Street, or JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio. The postings and profiles above are sorted by distance from 92236.

Evaluating caregivers in Coachella

Find out which credential, if any, each applicant has, and look it up. CNA certificates are issued and listed by CDPH. Anyone already working as an IHSS provider has completed Riverside County's enrollment, including a Live Scan. Agency aides appear on the Home Care Aide Registry, but the state's May 2025 file shows just one licensed home care organization with a Coachella address, so most people who answer a family post here will be independent. Ask for two references, ideally families they have worked for, and call both. Then pay for a short paid trial while you are home. CaregiverConnect does not check anyone's identity, background or references; a family that wants a background check has to obtain the caregiver's signed permission and order one independently.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • ¿Habla usted español con mi mamá, y puede leerle en voz alta las instrucciones del médico que vienen en inglés?
  • Do you live in Coachella or Indio, and do you have a backup way to get here, such as the 1EV bus?
  • Could you take my father to his dialysis appointments on Sixth Street and wait with him?
  • Have you helped someone bathe who uses a walker or a wheelchair?
  • Are you comfortable working in a home where children and other relatives are around during the day?
  • If my grandmother is approved for IHSS, would you enroll with Riverside County to be her paid provider?
  • What would you do if she felt faint during a hot afternoon?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Coachella: hourly rates and schedules

Daytime while the family works. A typical request is a weekday block that begins before the adults leave for work and ends when someone gets home; agree in writing what happens if a shift runs late. Appointment days. Some families only need help a few mornings a week to cover clinic or dialysis visits and the errands around them. Weekend relief. A relative who provides care all week may book a Saturday or Sunday so they can rest.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Coachella has no local minimum wage on UC Berkeley's list, so California's $16.90 sets the floor. Hire a personal attendant yourself and you owe 1.5 times the hourly rate once a shift goes beyond nine hours, or a week beyond 45. BLS reports a $16.50 median for home health and personal care aides in the Inland Empire metro, while the county's IHSS wage is $19.90. For context, half of Coachella households take in less than $68,596 a year, by the census estimate. If your relative has Medi-Cal, ask the county about IHSS first: approved hours can pay a family member or the caregiver you choose, and private hours can fill the gaps.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Safety

Hiring safely in Coachella

Put the job on paper before day one, in both languages if that suits your family: tasks, days, hourly pay, overtime and the notice each side owes the other. Both of you sign. Approve hours on a weekly timesheet, keep cash, cards and medications put away, and check bank statements if the caregiver runs errands. Riverside County Adult Protective Services takes reports around the clock on 1-800-491-7123, and the state runs a second APS number, 1-833-401-0832; use either if you think a Coachella elder is being mistreated, neglected or cheated, and use 911 when there is immediate danger. Payroll, taxes and a sample contract are explained in how to hire a private caregiver; the Riverside County page lists county aging services.

Can I find a caregiver in Coachella who speaks Spanish?

Is there assisted living in Coachella?

Not according to the state's May 2025 licensing file, which lists no residential care home for the elderly in ZIP 92236. To keep a parent at home, a family can combine relatives, IHSS hours and a private caregiver.

Possibly. IHSS lets the recipient choose the provider, including a son or daughter, and the county wage for each approved hour is $19.90. Your parent needs a Medi-Cal eligibility determination; call (888) 960-4477 to start.
