Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Coachella
Coachella counted 45,300 residents at the start of 2026 in the Department of Finance's E-1 series, and it is a young city. Its median resident is 33.4 years old in ACS 2020–2024, with 4,177 people aged 65 or older (9.6%) and 349 of them past 85. Older residents here rarely live by themselves: 2,875 of the city's 12,473 households include someone 65 or over, yet only 337 households consist of one older person alone. So a Coachella job is likely to mean looking after a grandparent in a busy family home while the working adults are out, and the person who hires you may be a son or daughter living under the same roof.
Language comes first in a profile for this city. Spanish is the home language of 83.3% of people here who are at least five years old, and 36.4% of that population rates its English below "very well." Someone who can explain a pharmacy label or a clinic letter in Spanish, and pass questions back to the doctor in English, is useful to almost any family here. Also say whether you drive, which days you are free, and whether you have helped someone with mobility limits: 37.7% of Coachella residents aged 65 or older (1,573 people) report a disability in the same survey.

Types of caregiver jobs in Coachella
Expect requests for bathing and dressing, cooking, light housekeeping and company during the day, plus rides to appointments: the dialysis clinic and primary care offices on Sixth Street and Cesar Chavez Street, or JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, which Route 1EV lists among its stops. Where the client is on Medi-Cal, the county's IHSS hours can go to a grandchild, niece or neighbor who signs up as the provider. Newcomers without paid experience can start with company and errands for a family they already know.

Caregiver pay in Coachella: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario, CA metro (Riverside and San Bernardino counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario, CA metro (Riverside and San Bernardino counties) | $16.50 median ($17.03 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 102,760 jobs; concentration 2.16× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Riverside County | $19.90 | CDSS; effective May 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Nursing assistants, Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario, CA metro (Riverside and San Bernardino counties) | $22.32 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison) |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
About 9.7% of Coachella's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. Riverside County as a whole averaged 5.5% over the same months and the state 5.3%; the city's monthly rate swung between 7.4% and 12.8%, in a labor force of roughly 23,900. When that many people are out of work, a fixed weekly schedule matters, and Riverside County IHSS providers earn $19.90 for each hour a social worker approves.
Coachella has passed no wage ordinance of its own, according to UC Berkeley's Labor Center, so private clients here can pay no less than the statewide $16.90. Under the Domestic Worker Bill of Rights, a personal attendant's hours past nine in a workday, or past 45 in a workweek, are paid at time and a half. Census estimates give Coachella households a median income of $68,596, and renters a median gross rent of $1,144 a month. Agriculture, forestry, fishing and mining together employ 7.6% of working residents and service occupations 32.6%. CNA holders can benchmark a private quote against $22.32, the BLS median wage for certified nursing assistants across the two-county metro.
How to enroll as a provider in Riverside County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Riverside County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.
How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Coachella
A family that employs you directly for daily living help needs you to hold no license. Agencies must put their aides on the state Home Care Aide Registry, and Coachella has just one licensed home care organization in the CDSS file of May 2025. IHSS enrollment begins by phone with Riverside County's IHSS HOME number, (888) 960-4477, staffed Monday to Friday. Fingerprinting can be done in town: the state's Live Scan directory includes the Postal Annex, 83103 Avenue 48, Suite 1B, taking walk-ins weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 to 3, with a $25 rolling fee. Nursing assistant work in a licensed facility requires a CDPH certificate. If you are paid to care for someone, California requires you to report suspected abuse of an elder or dependent adult (WIC §15630). Statewide rules are in the caregiver requirements guide, and the full county enrollment steps are on the Riverside County hub.
