Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Desert Hot Springs
The Department of Finance's E-1 report sets the city's population at 33,629 for January 2026. ACS 2020–2024 shows 4,303 of them aged 65 or older, 13.0% of the population, and many live alone: 1,231 households, about one in nine, are a person 65 or over by themselves, against 2.7% of households in Coachella. Of residents in that age group, 42.9% (1,837 people) report a disability. That pattern suggests visiting jobs more often than live-in ones: a few hours of bathing, meals, cleaning and company for someone with no relative in the house. If the person who posts lives out of town, ask who checks in between your visits.
Two more facts belong in your profile. Half the city's residents aged five and over (50.0%) speak Spanish at home, so list your languages. And 7.2% of households, 822 of them, have no vehicle; being able to take a client to the pharmacy, a DAP Health clinic or the senior center on West Drive gives you an edge. Say whether you have your own car and insurance.

Caregiver pay in Desert Hot Springs: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario, CA metro (Riverside and San Bernardino counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario, CA metro (Riverside and San Bernardino counties) | $16.50 median ($17.03 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 102,760 jobs; concentration 2.16× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Riverside County | $19.90 | CDSS; effective May 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Nursing assistants, Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario, CA metro (Riverside and San Bernardino counties) | $22.32 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison) |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
About 6.0% of Desert Hot Springs's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. Riverside County averaged 5.5% and California 5.3%, so the city ran a little above both, with monthly figures from 4.6% to 7.6% in a labor force of about 16,400. Reliable care hours help in that setting, and enrolling as a provider with Riverside County IHSS pays $19.90 per authorized hour.
UC Berkeley's inventory lists no Desert Hot Springs ordinance, which makes the state's $16.90 the minimum a private client may pay. Overtime for a personal attendant, at one and a half times the rate, applies to the tenth hour of any day and to hours over 45 in the week. Household incomes here are modest: ACS gives a median of $52,761, an 18.0% poverty rate and a median gross rent of $1,412. Service occupations account for 33.9% of employed residents. A CNA certificate opens facility work; the metro's nursing assistant median is $22.32.
How to enroll as a provider in Riverside County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Riverside County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.
How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
