How to find an in-home caregiver in Dublin

Post your request at no cost under 94568 and be specific: the tasks, the days and times, whether driving is part of the job, and who else is home during the shift. Caregivers whose travel radius reaches you can apply, and local profiles are listed here once they sign up. Some applicants will live in Dublin and others in Pleasanton, Livermore or San Ramon; find out how each plans to commute and whether that holds up at your start time.

Language often decides the match in Dublin. The ACS 2020–2024 survey found that 49.1% of residents aged five and older spoke a language other than English at home, and 24.4% of that group rated their English below very well. If your mother speaks mainly a language other than English, name it in the post, along with her diet, faith practices, mobility aids and any stairs. Note too whether she has a recent hospital stay, for example at Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley in Pleasanton, so applicants know whether they are signing up for recovery care.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Dublin

In Alameda County you can check three kinds of credential. Anyone on the IHSS provider rolls has been through Public Authority enrollment and a state Department of Justice check, and registry providers are cleared before any match. Independent applicants may lack a Home Care Aide Registry number, since California demands one only from agency staff. CNAs are certified by CDPH. Ask for numbers and confirm them, call two previous families or employers, let your parent spend time with the applicant before you decide, get written permission before running any background report, and book a paid trial shift. Those checks are yours to do, because CaregiverConnect neither vets caregivers nor runs background checks.

  • Would you be comfortable working while our children are home from school and a parent is working upstairs?
  • Can you cook the way our family eats, including vegetarian or other diet rules?
  • Are you an Alameda County IHSS provider, or registered as a home care aide?
  • Could you take Dad to the Dublin Senior Center for lunch and a class twice a week?
  • What do you charge on weekdays, and what for evenings or weekends?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Dublin: hourly rates and schedules

Common Dublin requests are weekday blocks from morning drop-off to early evening while the parents work; a few hours each morning for a shower, dressing and breakfast; rides to medical visits and the senior center; overnight help in the weeks after a hospital discharge; and live-in care for advanced dementia. With 34.7% of employed Dublin residents working from home per the ACS, a parent is often in the house, and the caregiver's job is mainly to keep a grandparent company and safe while a parent works in the next room.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

No Dublin wage ordinance exists, so the legal minimum is the state $16.90 an hour. Realistic private rates are higher: IHSS in Alameda County has paid $22.10 an hour since July 1, 2026, and the CareScout agency median for California is $40, against a metro aide median of $17.28 in May 2025. Budget for a rate between the IHSS figure and agency pricing, and more for dementia care, nights or driving. Under state rules, hours past nine a day or 45 a week are overtime for a personal attendant. To ask whether a parent on Medi-Cal qualifies for IHSS, call (510) 577-1800; if hours are approved, a relative can be the paid provider.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
