How to find an in-home caregiver in Livermore
Post under 94550 or 94551, describe the help needed and the hours, and caregivers who include Livermore in their travel radius can apply; Livermore-area profiles show above as people join. Applicants may live in town or commute from Pleasanton, Dublin or Tracy, so mention the cross streets and whether the job involves driving your parent. Most Livermore households own two or more vehicles, and a caregiver who can use your parent's car for errands and appointments may be easier to find than one with an insured car of their own. If you are coordinating from work, say how you want updates (a text after each visit, a shared notebook on the kitchen counter) and whom the caregiver should phone in an emergency.
Language is worth a line in the posting. According to ACS 2020–2024, 11.1% of Livermore residents older than four use Spanish in the household, and about half of them are not fully at ease in English. Name the language your parent prefers, Spanish or any other, in the first lines of the post.

Types of in-home care families in Livermore arrange
All non-medical. For nursing tasks (injections, wound care, catheters) you need a licensed home health agency, not a private caregiver.

Evaluating caregivers in Livermore
Ask what the candidate can prove, then check it. An aide sent by a licensed agency must be listed with the state's Home Care Aide Registry; an independent caregiver may sign up voluntarily and be fingerprinted. IHSS providers in Alameda County have passed a Department of Justice background check before they can be paid. A certified nursing assistant's CDPH certificate can be searched by name. Then do the slower checks: phone two references and ask about reliability and a hard day, include your parent in at least one interview, and pay for a short trial before you settle on a regular schedule. CaregiverConnect itself does no vetting or background screening, so any report you want, you order with the caregiver's written consent.

- Would you drive my father in his car, or yours, and do you have insurance that covers it?
- What did your last post-hospital job involve, for example after Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley?
- My mother is a veteran with appointments at the VA on Arroyo Road. Could you take her?
- What dementia training or experience do you have?

What in-home care costs in Livermore: hourly rates and schedules
Livermore requests often follow commuting patterns: a caregiver from about 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays while relatives are at work, a short morning visit for bathing and medication reminders, or a few evenings a week. Overnight cover for wandering or confusion and daily help for a few weeks after surgery are also common. A weekday senior lunch at the Robert Livermore Community Center can break up a long day and give a caregiver time for errands.

|---|---|---|
| Employed aides, San Francisco–Oakland–Fremont metro (Alameda County) | $17.28 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Alameda County | $22.10 | CDSS; effective July 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Agency non-medical home care, California median (CareScout 2025) | $40.00 | CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025 |
Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Without a Livermore wage ordinance, $16.90 under state law is the minimum, but that is rarely what an experienced caregiver accepts here. Alameda County raised its IHSS provider wage to $22.10 on July 1, 2026; the five-county metro median for aides is $17.28 (BLS); and CareScout puts California agencies at a $40 median. Families hiring on their own commonly settle somewhere from the IHSS figure upward, and pay more for nights and dementia. California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights requires pay at 1.5 times the regular rate for personal attendants on hours beyond 9 per workday or 45 per workweek. Cash pay to one caregiver reaching $3,000 in 2026 generally brings Social Security and Medicare withholding duties.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
