Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Livermore

The Department of Finance counted 86,118 Livermore residents at the start of 2026. It is a city of owner-occupied houses: 72.0% of homes are owned, the average household has 2.7 people, and only 5.1% of households have no vehicle (ACS 2020–2024). Care requests here often come from adult children who live in the same house or a few streets away and need cover while they commute; the average Livermore worker spends 30.1 minutes getting to work each way. Others come from older residents living alone, 2,779 households in all, who want enough help to keep living in their own homes.

Because nearly every client has a car in the driveway, families may ask whether you can drive their parent in the family vehicle or your own. Say clearly on your profile which you are willing to do and whether you can reach Livermore from Tracy, Pleasanton, Dublin or Manteca without relying on a single bus. If you do use transit, Wheels buses serve Livermore, and a personal care attendant rides Wheels Dial-A-Ride free with a qualifying rider. Among Livermore residents aged five or more, 11.1% speak Spanish in the household and 49.2% of them describe their English as less than "very well", so bilingual applicants should put Spanish at the very top of their profile.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Livermore: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the San Francisco–Oakland–Fremont, CA metro (San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Marin counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Livermore is missing from the July 2026 list of California local wage ordinances kept by the UC Berkeley Labor Center, meaning the legal floor in town is the state's $16.90. That is a long way below what Alameda County pays its IHSS providers, $22.10 an hour since July 1, 2026, and below the $17.28 hourly median the BLS found for aides in the five-county San Francisco–Oakland–Fremont metro. In a city where the median household income is $160,775, the IHSS rate is a sensible reference point when you quote a private rate, with more for nights, weekends and dementia care. When a family wants long shifts, remember that a personal attendant moves to overtime pay after the ninth hour of the day or the 45th hour of the week.

How to enroll as a provider in Alameda County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Alameda County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
