Finding in-home caregiver jobs in San Ramon

San Ramon is a Contra Costa County city of 84,220 people (state estimate for January 1, 2026), and its private care requests are mostly written by grown children arranging help for a mother or father. The ACS 2020–2024 survey counted 7,523 San Ramon households, a quarter of the total, with at least one member aged 65 or older, and 1,906 older residents living on their own. Families post under ZIP codes 94582 and 94583; the listings above change as new ones are published, so check back rather than assume a quiet week means no work.

Put two things near the top of your profile: the languages you speak and the area you can reach. In the same survey 46.8% of San Ramon residents aged five and over used a language other than English at home, and 83.3% of residents born abroad came from Asia; Spanish accounted for only 2.8%. If you speak an Asian language, name it and give an honest fluency level. Working residents averaged 34.7 minutes to their jobs and a third worked from home, so in many houses a relative is present during your shift and will want clear notes at handover.

Requests you are likely to see: weekday companionship and lunch for a parent while the family works, help with showering and dressing a few mornings a week, rides to appointments at San Ramon Regional Medical Center or a Kaiser clinic, overnight cover after surgery, and supervision for someone with memory loss. If you are new to paid care, start with companionship and errand work for an older adult who is still fairly independent, and take a short first aid and CPR course before you apply for hands-on personal care.

Pay

Caregiver pay in San Ramon: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the San Francisco–Oakland–Fremont, CA metro (Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

San Ramon never adopted a city wage law, and the UC Berkeley Labor Center's list of California ordinances has no entry for it, so pay inside city limits starts at the state $16.90. Contra Costa County pays IHSS providers $20.03 an hour from January 1, 2026, $2.75 above the $17.28 median BLS reported for home health and personal care aides across the five-county metro in May 2025. When you quote a private rate above the IHSS figure, back it with something a family can check: dementia experience, safe transfer technique or a clean driving record. For live-in and long-shift work, remember the California Domestic Worker Bill of Rights: a personal attendant earns overtime past nine hours in one day or past 45 hours in one week.

How to enroll as a provider in Contra Costa County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Contra Costa County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to San Ramon

Nothing about San Ramon changes the state rules. Companion and personal care that you contract directly with a family needs no state license; only employees of a licensed home care organization have to be listed on the state aide registry. To be paid through IHSS for a San Ramon client, enroll as a provider: Contra Costa runs a DOJ criminal background check by Live Scan fingerprinting and then a New Provider Orientation. The county Public Authority, 500 Ellinwood Way, Suite 110, Pleasant Hill, (800) 333-1081, also keeps a provider registry that adds a face-to-face interview and reference calls. Work in a nursing facility, or skilled tasks, requires CDPH nurse assistant certification. Paid caregivers are mandated reporters; county Adult Protective Services takes calls 24 hours a day. San Ramon in numbers

The ACS 2020–2024 estimates put 10,501 San Ramon residents at 65 or older, 12.2% of the city, and 1,036 at 85 or older; the median age was 41.6. A quarter of residents 65 and over reported a disability. Median household income was $196,161 and median gross rent $2,968, and only 3.7% of households had no vehicle. For you that usually means families who can pay for regular hours, homes where a car is expected, and clients who want help staying active at the Alcosta Senior and Community Center as much as help at home.

San Ramon Regional Medical Center, 6001 Norris Canyon Road, is a general acute care hospital licensed for 123 beds (HCAI), and discharges from it are a common reason families look for short-term help. Older residents without a car can use County Connection LINK paratransit, and the city GoSanRamon program halves Uber or Lyft fares inside its service area.
