Finding in-home caregiver jobs in San Lorenzo

San Lorenzo has no city hall. Alameda County lists it among its unincorporated communities, alongside Ashland, Cherryland, Hayward Acres, Fairview and Castro Valley, and Census data treat it as a census-designated place (CDP) holding 29,171 people by the ACS 2020–2024 count (±1,485). The county's page for these communities points residents to advisory bodies such as the Eden Area Municipal Advisory Council, and parks and recreation come from the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, which runs the San Lorenzo Community Center at 1970 Via Buena Vista.

Care employers inside 94580 are few and small. Four licensed elder care homes appear in the state's May 25, 2025 licensing file, six beds apiece (24 in total), among them Casa San Lorenzo and the two Sunrise Care Homes on Via Lucas, plus three six-bed adult residential facilities. One home care organization, Loving Hand Care Services, held a license. CDPH's October 2026 facility list has no hospital in 94580, and no nursing home, home health office or hospice either. Its listings for Hayward and San Leandro, however, include St. Rose Hospital, Kaiser San Leandro, San Leandro Hospital and more than 20 skilled nursing facilities, so facility shifts for a San Lorenzo caregiver mean working outside the ZIP.

The strongest selling point in a San Lorenzo profile is language. ACS 2020–2024 finds that 59.9% of San Lorenzo residents past their fifth birthday use a non-English language at home: 31.1% Spanish and 24.9% an Asian or Pacific Island language. And 14.1% of residents speak Spanish and report limited English, as do 13.7% who speak an Asian or Pacific Island language. Hispanic or Latino residents make up 42.1% of the community, Filipino residents 13.2% and Chinese residents 13.1%. A caregiver fluent in Spanish, Tagalog or a Chinese language should lead the profile with it.

Pay

Caregiver pay in San Lorenzo: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the San Francisco–Oakland–Fremont, CA metro (San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Marin counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Nursing assistants, San Francisco–Oakland–Fremont, CA metro (San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Marin counties)$26.96 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Because San Lorenzo is unincorporated, no city minimum wage applies, and UC Berkeley's wage inventory, as updated September 30, 2026, shows no Alameda County ordinance for unincorporated areas. California's $16.90 is therefore the floor. A countywide "Living Wage for All" initiative would raise pay to $30 an hour in stages, but only for employers in the unincorporated county. On August 4, 2026, the Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 to order an impact study instead of placing it on the November 3 ballot, which pushes a vote to the next countywide election, currently the 2028 presidential primary. Nothing in that measure is in force today.

About 4.3% of San Lorenzo's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates, a little under Alameda County's 4.5% and under California's 5.3%. Because EDD derives sub-county places like this one from county totals, treat that rate as approximate. The better news for caregivers is IHSS: Alameda County's provider rate is $22.10 an hour since July 1, 2026, set by where the client lives; our Alameda IHSS guide covers enrollment. BLS puts the metro median aide wage at $17.28 and the CNA median at $26.96. ACS gives San Lorenzo a median household income of $112,660 and a median rent of $2,163. Personal attendants on a household's own payroll collect time and a half beyond a nine-hour day or a 45-hour week.

How to enroll as a provider in Alameda County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Alameda County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to San Lorenzo

Caring privately for a San Lorenzo family needs no state license. Joining a licensed agency such as Loving Hand Care Services adds one step: the agency registers you with the state's Home Care Aide Registry, at $35. IHSS providers enroll through the county: you attend the mandatory provider orientation, sign the enrollment agreement, clear DOJ Live Scan fingerprinting and show two forms of ID. To be referred to clients through the Public Authority registry, you also submit its PA12 application and attend a new provider workshop; the Public Authority's main line is (510) 577-3552. Under Welfare and Institutions Code §15630, anyone responsible for an elder's or dependent adult's care is a mandated reporter of abuse; Alameda County APS answers around the clock on (510) 577-3500 or 1-866-CALL-APS.
