How to find an in-home caregiver in Pinole
Pinole's median age is 44.7. In ACS 2020–2024, 4,470 residents are 65 or over, 614 of them 85 or more, and 2,990 of the city's 6,588 households include at least one person past 65. About 705 older residents live alone. When you post, write down a normal day: when your mother wakes, what she can still do herself, whether she needs a hand in the shower, which days she goes to the Senior Center on Charles Avenue, and whether someone has to drive her or can book WestCAT's senior van.
Language matters here. ACS puts English-only households at 58.8% of residents five and up; the rest mostly speak an Asian or Pacific Island language (18.2%) or Spanish (15.9%), and 11.0% of Pinole residents are Filipino. Name the language your father is most comfortable in, whether Tagalog, Spanish or another, right in the post. Profiles of caregivers whose travel area takes in 94564 are shown above, and new ones are added whenever someone signs up.

Evaluating caregivers in Pinole
Three records are worth checking before anyone starts. CDPH's online lookup shows whether a nursing assistant certificate is active. Every aide sent out by one of Pinole's three licensed agencies needs a Home Care Aide Registry entry, so ask the agency for the aide's registry number. Anyone on the Contra Costa IHSS payroll has been through the Public Authority's Live Scan fingerprinting. Paper checks do not show how someone talks to your mother, though. Phone at least two families or employers the caregiver has worked for, do the final interview in your parent's living room, and pay for one trial shift scheduled when you or a sibling are around. CaregiverConnect itself never screens the people who join. A paid background report, ordered by you with the applicant's signed permission, is the route if you want one.
Questions families here ask at interview
- Mom eats lunch at the Pinole Senior Center on Tuesdays and Fridays. Can you get her there by noon and stay for the meal?
- Have you used WestCAT Senior Dial-A-Ride with a client before, and would you travel with her on it?
- Dad has regular dialysis at the center on Pinole Valley Road. Can you plan your shifts around his treatment days?
- Have you worked in a six-bed care home or for one of the Appian Way agencies, and may I call them?
- Could you speak with my father's doctors at the LifeLong clinic on San Pablo Avenue in his own language?
- If Mom slipped in the bathroom and you could not get her up, who would you call first?
- Which numbers can I look up for you: a registry listing, IHSS enrollment, or a nursing assistant certificate?
What in-home care costs in Pinole: hourly rates and schedules
Start of the day. Two to four hours for getting up, a shower, breakfast and pills, often while adult children are at work. Senior Center days. A midday block that covers the drive to Charles Avenue, a class such as balance or Zumba Gold, lunch at noon and the trip home. Medical days. Longer shifts built around a clinic visit or a regular dialysis appointment. Nights. Bedtime help or an overnight stay after a fall or as memory loss advances. Family relief. A set half day each week so the main family caregiver can rest.

| Employed aides, San Francisco–Oakland–Fremont metro (San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Marin counties) | $17.28 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Contra Costa County | $20.03 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
No Pinole ordinance sits in the UC Berkeley inventory of city wage laws, so the bottom line for a Pinole household paying its own aide is the statewide $16.90. Most Pinole families pay more than that, and two markers help: Contra Costa IHSS pays providers $20.03, and CareScout's 2025 survey found agencies charging a $40 median per hour statewide; private hires usually fall in between. The metro BLS median for aides is $17.28. Pinole's ACS median household income is $127,717, and 39.0% of residents carry public coverage such as Medicare or Medi-Cal. When Medi-Cal is in the picture, call county IHSS on (925) 229-8434 before you commit to private pay; a social worker visits to assess hours. Budget for overtime, too. Live-in or long-day arrangements cost more than the hourly figure suggests, because the Domestic Worker Bill of Rights makes every hour a personal attendant works past the ninth on any one day, or beyond 45 that week, overtime at time and a half.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
