Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Grand Terrace

Grand Terrace, the city that calls itself the Blue Mountain City, incorporated in 1978 and describes its own location as the I-215 corridor between Riverside and San Bernardino. That border position is the first thing to understand about care work here. A job a few minutes from home may be on the Riverside County side, where the IHSS rate and the intake office are different, so ask a new family which county the client lives in before you talk about pay. Inside the city, the steady local employers are few and easy to list: one nursing home on Mount Vernon Avenue, a medical office building at 22365 Barton Road that houses a home health agency and two hospices, three small homes for adults with developmental disabilities, and a handful of licensed elder care homes on residential streets.

Private work comes mostly from families with a parent at home. The ACS 2020–2024 counts 1,650 Grand Terrace households where someone is 65 or older, and 575 people in that age group who live by themselves. The city runs its own senior center and a weekday senior van, which shapes what a typical shift looks like: lunch at the center, a ride home, an afternoon of help with bathing, meals and medicines. Your profile should name your free weekdays, say if you have a car and list every language you can work in.

Expect three kinds of request. Adult children who work away from town post weekday daytime hours for a parent who needs help with personal care, cooking and getting to appointments. Older people who live on their own ask for a few visits a week for shopping, laundry and company. And the hospice offices on Barton Road mean some families need a sitter during end-of-life care at home, alongside the visiting nurse. Newcomers usually start with companion and errand hours for one household, or with shifts at one of the six-bed care homes listed below.

The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Openings are not the same as net new jobs.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Grand Terrace

No license is needed when a Grand Terrace household pays you itself for personal care, meals and errands. The rules change when an agency is involved: Agencies are different: CDSS will not let a licensed home care organization place you with a client until your name is on its Home Care Aide Registry. Its May 2025 licensing file shows no such agency operating from 92313, so agency work here is dispatched from other towns. Work at the nursing home on Mount Vernon Avenue or for a home health agency needs a CDPH-issued certificate (CNA or home health aide). On the IHSS side, Grand Terrace clients start with the county's Central Intake Unit, (877) 800-4544, and a new provider enrolls with San Bernardino County and finishes the CDSS provider orientation. The full statewide checklist is in California caregiver requirements.
