Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Ontario

This page is about Ontario in San Bernardino County, not the Canadian province; searches for caregiver work here often return Canadian live-in programs, which have nothing to do with these postings. Ontario families post with ZIP codes 91761, 91762 and 91764, and new postings appear above as soon as they go live. When IHSS providers choose where they will work, the county registry lists Ontario together with Guasti and Montclair, and applicants from Upland, Chino and Fontana are within reach too, so set your radius to match the drive you will really make.

Two things set an Ontario profile apart. The first is language: 46.5% of Ontarians over four use Spanish at home, and 22.6% rate their English below "very well", the highest share of the three west-valley cities on this site. The second is being exact about time: list the blocks you can cover, such as early mornings or evenings, rather than writing "flexible", because families compare schedules first.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Ontario: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario, CA metro (San Bernardino County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario, CA metro (San Bernardino County)$16.50 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025; 102,760 jobs; concentration 2.16× national
IHSS provider wage, San Bernardino County$19.00CDSS; effective January 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario MSA projection: 94,950 aide jobs in 2023 to 126,020 in 2033 (+32.7%), about 191,990 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections published April 2026). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.

Ontario gives its name to the metro in this table, but the figures cover all of Riverside and San Bernardino counties. EDD expects aide employment across the metro to rise 32.7% over 2023–2033, more than three times the 9.8% expected for jobs overall, and puts the median for nursing assistants at $22.22. No city wage ordinance applies in Ontario; the state's $16.90 is the bottom of the range. Household incomes are lower here than in Rancho Cucamonga or Fontana (an $88,941 median in the ACS 2020–2024) while the median rent is $2,030, so families weigh cost closely; the county IHSS rate of $19.00 is the number most private offers are measured against.

How to enroll as a provider in San Bernardino County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS San Bernardino County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Ontario

California's rules reach Ontario through San Bernardino County. Families who hire you directly for non-medical care need no license from you, and only agency aides are obliged to join the state Home Care Aide list. Paid IHSS work runs through the county aging department (DAAS–Public Guardian) and the IHSS Public Authority, whose closest district office to Ontario is at 9445 Fairway View Place, Suite 110, Rancho Cucamonga, (909) 948-6200. Providers enroll online through BOUNDS and clear a Department of Justice fingerprint check paid for by the applicant; the Public Authority registry additionally asks for two months of experience, two reference letters and fluent English. Facility jobs and nursing tasks need a CDPH nursing assistant certificate. Report suspected abuse of an older adult on (877) 565-2020, answered 24 hours. Details: requirements guide.

The area

Ontario in numbers

The state's January 1, 2026 estimate puts Ontario at 187,863 people. The ACS 2020–2024 median age is 33.5 and 10.5% of residents are 65 or older, roughly 18,900 people, of whom about 1,700 have passed 85. 68.6% are Hispanic or Latino and 27.7% were born abroad; 10.0% of residents report a disability. Commutes average 31.5 minutes and only 9.1% of workers work from home, fewer than in Fontana or Rancho Cucamonga, which is one reason Ontario families look for daytime cover.

The city's hospital is Kaiser Foundation Hospital–Ontario at 2295 South Vineyard Avenue, licensed for 214 beds, and San Antonio Regional Hospital in neighboring Upland adds 363 more. Chaffey College itself began in Ontario in 1883 before moving to Haven Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga in 1960. Nearby pages: Rancho Cucamonga, Pomona, Fontana and Corona.
